Chair - Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust

This year Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust (RGHT) celebrates a decade looking after key structures, objects and historic records within the Royal Borough of Greenwich in South East London, the most important of these being the Grade 1 listed Jacobean Charlton House.

We are seeking an inspirational Chair of the board, along with a number of trustees, as we look forward to the next 10 years.

We have exciting plans for Charlton House, as we seek  to drive the Trust’s commercial and community activities and build towards a sustainable future for our heritage assets, as well as opening up the museum collection and archive to more visitors.

Your leadership experience, stakeholder management and interest in both our local heritage and communities will lead the organisation into our next decade of growth.

What we are looking for

Following the retirement of Len Duvall OBE, who has led the charity for the past 10 years, we are seeking a new Chair to provide inspirational leadership to the Trust.  Key responsibilities of the Chair include chairing the Board of Trustees, acting as a mentor to the Chief Executive, and actively supporting our fundraising activities.

We are looking for strong commercial skills, coupled with a strategic approach and great vision to help shape the future of the Trust.  An advantage will be having excellent business and other contacts and a track record of delivering commercial success and sustainable growth.

How much time is involved?

Board meetings are bi-monthly. In addition, there is an annual half day strategy meeting and a small number of ad-hoc meetings throughout the year. In person attendance at these meetings is desirable but not always essential. There will also be the occasional need to attend meetings with senior officers and Elected Members of the local authority.

In all we expect the Chair will need a time commitment of around 10 to 12 days per annum, although that may to some extent depend on the appointee’s style of leadership. The Chair will be appointed for a 3-year term which could be extended.

Please note this is an unremunerated role although reasonable travel expenses will be covered.

To help deliver success you will be supported by a wonderful team of staff, volunteers and Trustees, with tremendous goodwill from the wider community.

This is a role that does not come up often and it offers the opportunity to lead a passionate team and develop innovative strategies; and the chance to be proud of what you can achieve with us.

In the first instance please send your full and up to date CV together with a covering letter detailing why you are an excellent fit for this role to our retained advisors This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The closing date is Monday 3rd June.

We aim to schedule interviews in the third week of June.
